Veteran’s Day – Did You Know?
Originally known as Armistice Day, Veteran’s Day commemorates the armistice that ended World War I; signed at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month, in 1918. The first Veteran’s Day was celebrated the following year on November 11, 1919. However, it was not until 1938 that Veteran’s Day became a legal federal holiday in the United States.
Veteran’s Day is a day to honor the men and women who have so bravely and selflessly served this nation’s military. Today, the U.S. Census Bureau estimates that there are 21 million living veterans; 21 million people who have sacrificed their lives to ensure the safety of ours. How will you thank a Veteran?
