COVID-19 Local Business Spotlight: Component Repair Technologies

With so many negative stories flooding our feeds, we want to share stories each that show the strength and compassion from businesses in our local Mentor, Willoughby Western Lake County, Eastern Lake County, and Chardon chamber of commerce.  

Today, we are spotlighting Component Repair Technologies (CRT).  Located in Mentor, CRT is a FAA-certified repair station, using manufacturing processes to repair gas turbine engine components for air, land, and sea since 1985.

At D&S Automotive, we are truly inspired to hear stories about companies who are using their skills and resources to deliver innovative ways to help our communities.  Mentor Chamber of Commerce member, Component Repair Technologies, did just that, by creating Patient Isolation Chambers for the Mentor Fire Department ambulances. 

While working with a local environmentally safe disinfectant company on a project that required them to take measurements of common stretchers used by Fire Department EMT’s, CRT took a trip to visit one of the Mentor Fire Stations. While there, a Mentor fireman showed them an ambulance that had been fitted with plastic sheeting to protect the EMT teams as well as the inside of the ambulance from contamination, should they transport a person suspected of having the COVID-19 virus. From that visit, CRT knew they could help. 

Component Repair Technologies quickly developed and proposed a safety barrier frame encased in plastic sheeting that could be not only disinfected, but also replaced quickly if needed.  After approval and input from the Mentor Fire Department, the design was tweaked and put into production.  All nine of Mentor’s fire trucks are to be fitted with the safety barriers.   

Kevin Mandato, Vice President of Engineering at CRT spoke on the project, “Our team was able to develop a solution where materials are low cost, can be purchased on-line or at local DIY stores, and put together using a hand saw, tape measure and utility knife.”  Kevin stated that with these blueprints and an investment of about $300, departments are able to add an additional layer of protection that also simplifies the disinfection process after each patient is transported.

Kristin Conteen, Marketing & Community Relations Specialist at CRT, told us, “The team at CRT is honored to have the opportunity to support first respondents and our community.”  She stated that once they shared the information about the safety barriers on social media, word spread quickly with requests coming in from across Ohio,  including Twinsburg, Mt. Gilead and Fairport Harbor fire departments.  Kristin explained, “We know the work we do at CRT impacts the movement of people and cargo all over the world.  We take that seriously, but being able to respond to a need right here in our backyard has been truly fulfilling.”

As for D&S, we are open and operating under adjusted hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm M-F.

  • We are sanitizing all vehicles before and after each repair. Our employees are paying special attention to interior and exterior customer touch points such as keys, seats, steering wheels, door handles, and other hard surfaces.
  • We are offering complimentary pick up and drop off of vehicles so you do not need to leave your home.
  • You can get a repair estimate from home by using our online estimate tool.
  • We will work with you in terms of payment over the phone or any other precautions to ensure as little contact as possible.
  • We are cleaning our facilities frequently with sanitizing products.
  • We are taking precautions to ensure the welfare of our employees. This includes instructing employees who feel ill to stay home and consult their healthcare providers, as well as, instructing all employees to be vigilant about frequent and proper hand washing.
