This is the first couples weeks for all of the kids back in school. The kids may be back in school but the safety threats are always there. Make sure you and your kids are safe on and off the road with these careful tips we put together for you and your family.
When waiting for the bus kids should play somewhere safe, away from the street and wait for the bus to come to a complete stop before approaching the street. Kids should wait again for the doors to open to get on the bus. If they have to cross the street, make sure the kids look both ways before crossing the street. This includes teaching your kids to look left, look right and look left again before crossing.
The bus driver is like the captain of the ship. Everyone must listen to the driver when on the bus. Encourage your children to sit quietly in the seat and talk nicely with their neighbor. No one should be standing up while the bus is moving and listen to the bus driver at all times.
Did you know that about 13% of kids walk or bike to school? As a responsible driver, be sure to look out for kids who may ride or walk near the street. Children are the least predictable walking and biking pedestrians. Stay aware on the road because children are hard to see from behind the wheel.
It is illegal to pass a school bus stopped to load or unload children. Never pass a school bus on the right but also know the laws for the other side of the street.
